Mr. Alex Wong is Chief Executive Officer of the Maritime Silk Road Society (MSRS) in Hong Kong. MSRS is a non-profit making organization. Its main objective is to support and complement China’s “Belt and Road Initiative” and to assist Hong Kong in taking full advantage of this initiative, leveraging the city’s strong business, cultural and people-to-people ties with the Maritime Silk Road provinces and cities as well as the ASEAN and South Asian countries.
Prior to taking up his present position with the formation of the MSRS in September 2015, Mr. Wong had served 34 years in the Hong Kong civil service, mainly in district administration, trade, economic and public finance. He was District Officer (Southern) (2008-2012); Deputy Director-General of the Hong Kong Economic and Trade Office in Washington, D.C., U.S.A. (2004-2007); and Principal Assistant Secretary at the Economic Development and Labour Bureau (energy policy, competition policy, consumer protection and postal services) (2000-2004).
Mr. Wong had also served in the Finance Bureau on privatization of the Mass Transit Railway and worked on various multilateral issues related to the World Trade Organization and the Asia Pacific Economic Cooperation. He joined the Hong Kong civil service in 1978, after graduating from Simon Fraser University, Canada. He is married with a daughter and a son.
